IndianArt Collectors.com starts this fortnight featuring the work of an eminent artist : Somnath Bothe. A gold medalist in art, according to him paintings are the medium for expressing his way of looking at the things. Somnath's surroundings always made a deep impact on his work. His way of being brought up, his childhood surroundings, education and finally the city like has helped him to innovate and develop his art with each passing year.

Bothe's journey in art field began with landscapes and potraits which inspired his work and he started thinking about the sensitivity and intent of the paintings. His paintings are a combination of the rural and urban. Having spent his childhood in the villages he has, as he says, " a deep rooted respect for nature".However living in the city has also influenced his artworks a great deal. Life in the city with it's buildings and automobiles are featured in his paintings; while the foreground is highlighted with bold colours the background is in muted and smokey hues, as if hiding itself away from the daily hustle and bustle. This blend of diverse geographies and cultures indirectly flows in his paintings. The passion for cherishing humanity, love and affection, fusion of village and city life are the subjects of his works and naturally the folk human figures have central place in Somnath Bothe's paintings. Vibrant colours have very gradually faded to form a picture very pleasing to the eye.
