When Hope Finds a Home: Images and Conversation

San Francisco –The Hannah Project Partnership for Academic Achievement is proud to announce the extension of their Black History exhibit, When Hope Finds a Home: Images and Conversation in Marin City through March 22nd.

The show features a photo exhibition of well-known photographer, David S. Johnson, best known for documentation of the San Francisco Fillmore District during the 1940s and 1950s. According to Johnson, “It was a vibrant center of African American jazz.” Johnson photographed such talent as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday. The exhibition takes a closer look behind the scenes at Black life and culture during the infamous “Negro Removal” which permanently displaced over 20,000 residents. Ongoing viewing can be seen at the Gateway Shopping Center at 170 Donohue Street (next to the Best Buy store) in Marin City. The retrospective poses significant ideas about the trajectory of African Americans in San Francisco and the Bay Area region. New gallery hours are:
•   Monday through Wednesday – By appointment only
•   Thursday through Saturday – 12:30p to 6:00p
•   Sunday – 12 Noon to 4p
