What’s Your Anti-Intentions for the New Year?

Have you written down your intentions for what you want to accomplish in the coming year? What about writing down your anti-intentions? HUH? “My what?” you may be asking.

When I work with clients on their intentions, many times I ask them to write their anti-intentions when they set their intentions. Anti-intentions are the polar opposite of your intentions or you can look at it as the downside of getting your intention. What? You mean there is a downside to manifesting your intentions?
We live in a world of duality and meeting our intentions also falls prey to duality. When we understand this principle and we stop and write down what they may be, we are more prepared to deal with the anti-intention instead of being blindsided by it. Let me give you a few examples.
If my intention was to release 20 pounds of excess weight, the anti-intention may be that my clothes would no longer fit and I may need to budget some money to buy some new clothes. It may mean that I may get attention from the opposite sex or have people commenting on how great I look and if I am shy or uncomfortable with that attention, I had better mentally prepare myself for it.
What if my intention is to write, publish and market a book this year? The anti-intention may be that I may not have as much time to spend with family and friends so that I can accomplish my goal. I may need to waste less time watching my favorite television shows or just puttering around the house.
What if my intention is to become a millionaire this year? Is there an anti-intention for that? You bet! The anti-intention may be that I will have more paperwork to handle, I may have to create a trust, I may have more financial and legal hassles to deal with, I may have more people asking for financial contributions to their causes.
One of my intentions is to hold a large educational event at the end of January with some of the top business experts in the country. Great intention, right? The anti-intention is that I have a lot of details to handle that are not part of my normal schedule. I have to do a lot of writing to prepare for the marketing of the event and I’ve hired an event coordinator to handle details with the speakers, so there is a lot of collaboration time with her to make sure the event runs smoothly. I am also working longer hours than normal which takes away from some of my family time.

If you take the time to figure out the anti-intention of your intention, you will be less frustrated when the anti-intention shows up. You can handle whatever downside comes with your intention with grace and optimism knowing that it is just part of the manifestation process. Happy manifesting!
