By: MBA Universe The duration of the new pattern of MICAT was 1 hour and 55 minutes. There were two booklets. Booklet 1 had three sections. The first section was ‘MCQs on Divergent Thinking and Creativity potential, the second section was ‘MCQs on General Awareness’ and the third section was Written Communication Ability Test. The Booklet 2 had questions on Psychometric Test. There was negative marking of ¼ mark for the first two sections. The test takers found the paper to be too lengthy and faced time constraints. They had to compromise on essay or story writing in order to complete the psychometric Test section, which was a compulsory section. Let us have a section wise analysis of the MICAT 2012 paper. Section 1 – Divergent Thinking and Creativity Potential This section had 35 questions of moderate to tough difficulty level. The question types were on Word Association, Visual Reasoning, Implicit Statement, Assumption etc. Some of the questions were on easy lines while some were tough nuts to crack. Section 2 – General Awareness This section had 25 questions on contemporary social and industry issues. The areas from which the questions appeared were media, marketing, advertising and business. The questions would have appeared easy for those who have been following the media industry, business and general awareness news regularly. Otherwise, the questions can appear as quite tricky. Section 3 – Written Communication Ability Test This section was the subjective one and was quite lengthy in nature. The first question was Essay Writing on the topic, ‘Larger states should be divided into smaller states’. In this question, you have to write both in favour and against the topic. In the end, you have to give your own opinion. The next question is to write a story on the basis of images given. This section was the only subjective area in the paper, hence it was the most time consuming section. There is no right or wrong answer in this section and it tested the analytical and creative bent of mind. Psychometric Test The Psychometric test consisted of 30 questions. It was compulsory to answer all the questions. This part had three sections. The first set of questions had 30 statements out of which one had to pick 10 which would describe the personality traits. The second set asked the test takers to choose from a set of two arguments and also rate them in accordance with one’s personality traits. In the third set of questions, one had to rank the various responses under given situations on a scale of one to six where rating one implied highest priority and rating six implied least priority.
