Feb. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Three hundred members of The Society of American Mosaic Artists will be meeting February 29-March 3 at the Lexington Hyatt for the annual Mosaic Art Summit.  A generous, giving bunch, they will devote two days of the conference to creating a beautiful mosaic mural for The Nest:  Center for Women, Children, and Families, a Lexington non-profit that offers resources for families to develop the skills and habits needed for a healthier lifestyle.  Resources at the Nest include child care, counseling, parenting classes, and crisis case management.  The mural was designed by artist Christine Brallier.  She has created several mosaics for public spaces including a children’s park in Santa Barbara, CA, and the labor and delivery room of Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos, TX.

The mosaic artists will work around the clock to complete the beautiful mosaic triptych for The Nest’s lobby.  The design incorporates imagery related to the organization’s name and will include birds, trees, flowers, and of course, a nest!  Materials were generously donated for this project by smalti.com and LATICRETE International.

The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) also invites the public to view “Mosaic Arts International, 2012”; a juried exhibition of members’ work which will be on view at the Lexington Center Museum and Gallery February 27-April 27, 2012.  Art collectors are beginning to gain a true appreciation of the richness of the mosaic art form and the texture that plays such an important factor in the work.  SAMA artists create 2D, 3D, sculptural and architectural works, from micro-mosaics using tesserae (literally pieces) the size of the head of a pin to colossal architectural installations, creating art that is both compelling and enduring.

The conference will also host an Art Supply Market which will be open to the public on Friday, March 2, 2p-6p and Saturday, March 3, 8:30a-1p in the Hyatt’s LC Bluegrass Ballroom.  The Hyatt is located at 401 W. High Street.  The market will feature mosaic, glass, and ceramic supplies and tools.
