Smart City Networks to maintain upgraded Wi-Fi at Lucas Oil Stadium & Indianapolis Convention Center

Enhanced Wi-Fi network will offer greater connectivity for future events

Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After coordinating the installation and integration of upgrades to the Wi-Fi network at Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind., Smart City Networks will manage the day-to-day operations of the upgraded Wi-Fi network that can keep tens of thousands of people online wirelessly.

Smart City Networks coordinated the integration of the previous Wi-Fi system with the upgrades and will remain on-site as the manager and daily operator of the network at Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center. The event technology company will oversee the overall performance of the new system and manage customer service to ensure visitors have a positive experience while online.

“In our highly connected world, Wi-Fi has become a service almost everyone depends on, and we look forward to maintaining this robust Wi-Fi network on a daily basis for all of the future events that the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium hosts,” said Mark Haley, president of Smart City Networks.

“We are very proud to now be offering such an extensive Wi-Fi system at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium,” said Barney Levengood, executive director of Indiana Convention Center. “While the world is focused on Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium for the big game, we took this opportunity to implement upgrades that will benefit our event and convention attendees well into the future.”

To allow for tens of thousands of concurrent connections, Smart City coordinated the addition of 700 more access points at the stadium and convention center, bringing the facility’s total to 1,100 access points from approximately 400 before the upgrade.

While most event facilities have less than a handful of wireless controllers, 24 wireless controllers were installed at the Indianapolis complex to handle the increased demand for connectivity.

Bandwidth circuitry for wired and wireless Internet connectivity was also increased from one 100 Mbps circuit to four 1 Gbps circuits, ensuring redundancy in the system to prevent outages.

Since 2007, Smart City Networks has provided the event technology services, including overseeing the provision and maintenance of both wired and wireless Internet services, at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. In November 2011, Smart City Networks was awarded a three year extension of their event technology contract for the facilities.
