Jan. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Stuart, FL - More than 125 parents and family members gathered in the Pinewood Elementary School auditorium on January 20 to watch and cheer as fifth –grade students walked single- file into the auditorium to music and wearing bright blue DARE tee-shirts. For the past two years, Attorney Lauri J. Goldstein of Goldstein, Schmitt and Wade, PL has underwritten the expense of the tee shirts for Pinewood, Seawind, Port Salerno, Hobe Sound and Jensen Beach Elementary Schools.

The students wrote thank you letters to Mrs. Goldstein for her participation, which were presented during the ceremony.

“ I believe in the youth of this county. I have two young children myself and I am familiar with the realities of what happens in the schools. The DARE program provides important education that students can use as they encounter negative peer pressure,” Ms. Goldstein commented.

The Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education (DARE) program is an 11-week course that is taught in 10 Martin County public schools with by specially trained Martin County School resource Officers. Approximately 1500 students graduated from the DARE program each year.

To complete their training each student must write an essay on what they have learned about drug and alcohol abuse and how harmful it is. One winner from each class was selected.

The winners were Camryn Moody, Hannah Clark, Jack Benevides-Carver, Luke Marcucci, and Cassidy Newcome. Eddy Casco was selected as the overall winner for his essay, “DARE- The Unknown Battle”.

Gathered on stage to greet each student as they received their certificate of completion were Deputy Martha Williams, DARE officer for Pinewood Elementary, Principal Larry Green, Asst. Principal Beverly Harvey, Superintendent Nancy Kline, School Board member Laurie Gaylord, Lt. Larry Stripling, Lt. Shawn Boorman and Attorney Aaron Chatenka, representing Goldstein, Schmitt and Wade, P.L.
