Jan. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Haifa, Israel -- The ELAICH (Educational Linkage Approach in Cultural Heritage) Consortium will hold its Closing Conference on January 30, 2012 at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.

The conference will bring together decision makers and experts in the areas of education and cultural heritage conservation. Participants will include high school managers, educators in science, arts and history, representatives from authorities and NGOs related to cultural heritage conservation and to relevant local, regional and national government institutions.

Senior officials from international and national education and heritage authorities and organizations from the European Union, Israel, Greece, Italy, Malta, Belgium and Slovenia have already confirmed their participation.

The conference will focus on reviewing the ELAICH project and launching the eLAICH Educational Toolkit. ELAICH partners will share the principles and the structure of eLAICH and its contribution to raising awareness of cultural heritage and its preservation, and demonstrate the on-line toolkit in action. The innovative toolkit is particularly aimed at providing tools for educators to introduce the values of cultural heritage to the general public and to high school students in particular.

Participants will discuss the value of and impact of the toolkiton educational programs, either through formal or informal educational programs.

“After three intensive and fruitful years, based on the results of application of the ELAICH educational methodology in several courses in Israel, Malta, Greece, Turkey and Jordan, we are happy to introduce the eLAICH toolkit to the education and conservation  community,” said Dr. Anna Lobovikov-Katz, coordinator of the ELAICH project.

“Participants in the ELAICH Workshop for Public Officials held in Venice in 2011 expressed great interest in adopting it. The closing conference will provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate what a powerful tool it is and how it can help in educating and involving the general public in cultural heritage preservation and conservation,” she added.

During the conference, ELAICH will also present initiatives undertaken  to ensure the sustainability of the project and its results, including the ELAICH Sites Network. The new initiative aims to ensure facilitation of on-site study as part of eLAICH educational activities, in coordination with cultural heritage and conservation authorities and organizations in the various regions.
