No Help With DUI Checkpoints From Apple Apps

Apple recently announced that they are complying with pressure to reject cell phone applications that provide the locations of DUI checkpoints. This move comes after four Senators signed a joint letter asking for the change.

Jan. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- With the advance in mobile phone technology has come the proliferation of cell phone apps. All manner of research, reviews, shopping and everything else imaginable seems to now be officially covered by the phrase, “There’s an app for that.” Apple is the gatekeeper of the apps it provides over its iTunes store. That is why there are no indecent or obscene apps. However, that doesn’t mean all apps have been deemed “responsible.” One app that caught the attention of government officials allowed users to get information about the locations of DUI checkpoints. After a letter was sent to Apple by four United States Senators, the company complied and removed the apps in question.

The new guidelines from Apple get right to the point: “applications which contain DUI Checkpoints that are not published by law enforcement agencies or encourage and enable drunk driving will be rejected.” Often, police departments will make notifications of the intent to set up DUI checkpoints such as during holiday weekends or big events like the Super Bowl. However, they don’t often disclose where those checkpoints will be because that would defeat their purpose of removing drunk drivers from the road.

What is not realized by drivers is that DUI checkpoints need to comply with certain rules and regulations. If those standards aren’t met, then the stops and any actions as a result of those stops are rendered invalid. This is exactly the kind of information that is provided by the experienced attorneys at the Parker Law Center. These lawyers specialize in DUI arrests and are well versed in the guidelines that must be adhered to at DUI checkpoints.

Being stopped at a DUI checkpoint and charged with an offense doesn’t necessarily mean an automatic conviction. Every DUI arrest and charge needs to be resolved before a judge in a court of law. Even if the driver has been found to have met the legal standard of driving while intoxicated, there is still room for negotiation in terms of the level of fine or jail time that can be handed down by a judge. This is why hiring a DUI attorney from the Parker Law Center is the most prudent form of action when an incident like this occurs.
