Wrap Around Protection With The New Vauxhall Zafira Tourer

Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Inspired by the high-tech luxury of elite high-speed trains, Vauxhall have redefined the term luxury for their all new Zafira 7-seater.  The Vauxhall Tourer now offers premium class driving quality and greater levels of flexibility and innovation, surrounded by style.

This new model is now available to test drive at Northern Motors Vauxhall, with dealerships located in Watford, Harrow and Ruislip.

Great emphasis has been placed on safety in the Zafira Tourer, with a plethora of driver-assistance systems making their first appearance in the new model, with options such as Traffic Sign Recognition, Side Blind Spot Alert and Advance Park Assist.

Traffic Sign Recognition
Using traffic sign recognition (TSR), the front camera system reads and remembers speed limits and ‘no overtaking’ signs, displays them and signals the end of any restrictions.

Side Blind Spot Alert
Especially useful on multi-lane motorways, the side blind spot alert uses side-mounted sensors to check if there’s an obstructing vehicle in the inner or outside lane when you want to pull over. It continually monitors the blind spots on both sides and lights an LED in the inner or outer rear view mirror when a vehicle is in this area. If the indicator is used when a vehicle is in this problem zone the LED flashes and you hear a warning.

Advance Park Assist
The optional Advanced Park Assist (APA) takes the strain out of parallel parking. Sensors at the front and back connect to a central computer processor which can detect a suitable parking space and calculate the optimal parking path. You receive both written and visible graphic indications for the steering angle and the result is perfect parallel parking even in crowded city conditions.

The optional rear-view camera is mounted in the handle of the boot door. It is automatically activated when you select reverse, and has a viewing angle of 130 degrees. What it sees is displayed on the colour screen of the infotainment system.

Improved Adaptive Forward Lighting
In conjunction with the front camera system, the Vauxhall Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) system uses the properties of the adaptive Bi-Xenon lights to extend the range of the low beams from an already outstanding 100 metres up to approximately 350 metres, without disturbing on-coming or preceding traffic.

An absolute industry first is the Topography Evaluation function that registers hills or slopes. It recognises the rear light movement of preceding vehicles and adjusts the light range accordingly to ensure the best illumination of the road ahead. Because the earlier a potential hazard is seen the easier it is to avoid, AFL+ with Intelligent Light Ranging increases both safety and driver comfort.

Adaptive Cruise Control
The adaptive cruise control (ACC) of the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer maintains the selected speed or gap you set to the vehicles ahead. The front radar sensor in the lower grille detects distance and closing speed and the desired speed and following gap is indicated in the driver information centre (DIC).

ACC works at speeds over 30 mph. When closing in, the brakes automatically intervene to decelerate the vehicle to maintain the gap. The automatic brake intervention works down to 18 mph. If the preceding vehicle decelerates to lower speeds, you hear a chime and an icon pops up in the instrument cluster to warn the driver that they need to take control of the vehicle. To come to a complete standstill, you have to apply the brake.

Two new engines – a 1.4-litre Turbo petrol and a 2.0 CDTi diesel (with three outputs) -join a 1.8-litre petrol unit to offer a spread of power options from 110PS to 165PS.
