Follow on Google News | CBCD Encourages Research into Uses for Quercetin in Antiviral, Scientific RemediesThe CBCD believes that hard research into the efficacy of some alternative, yet scientific, medical remedies is in order.
By: Simon Campbell Not all things labeled “alternative” Take, for instance, a study done in 2007 that was published in the scientific journal, Acta Pharmacologica Sinica. The title is “In vivo and in vitro antiviral activity of hyperoside extracted from Abelmoschus manihot (L) medik” and it can be found on Pubmed.gov. (In vitro [Latin: within glass] refers to studies in experimental biology that are conducted using components of an organism that have been isolated from their usual biological context in order to permit a more detailed or more convenient analysis than can be done with whole organisms. In vivo [Latin for "within the living"] is experimentation using a whole, living organism as opposed to a partial or dead organism.) According to the study’s conclusion, the results suggested that “hyperoside is a strong inhibitor of HBsAg and HBeAg secretion in 2.2.15 cells and DHBV-DNA levels in the HBV-infected duck model.” In other words, hyperoside (a medicinally active compound made of the 3-O-galactoside of quercetin) helped keep the levels of the Hepatitis B virus down in the duck model the researchers studied. The CBCD is encouraged by this finding because we believe that scientifically based, natural, safe approaches to combating viruses are an intriguing avenue that needs further scientific exploration. Many viruses can infect the body and then begin storing dormant (sleeping) copies of themselves (imagine clone soldiers) somewhere in the body’s organs. When the virus copies are latent, or dormant (asleep) they do nothing and the person has no symptoms even though the virus lives within the person’s body for life. In fact, the FDA says, “Some viruses…can enter a state known as latency in which the virus is not being replicated. In the latent state, the virus does not cause disease.” However, many viruses can awaken and begin replicating themselves. Anyone who has had a fever blister or cold sore has experienced an awakening of the Herpes (HSV-1) virus within his or her system. The virus clones awaken and immediately begin attacking the body resulting in an Oral Herpes outbreak. The same thing happens with many other viruses. They invade and then settle into the body in a dormant, sleeping state…just waiting to wake up and attack the human system. That is why the CBCD believes that more research into scientifically based, natural methods of combating dormant viruses is so important. It makes sense that methods for killing dormant viruses, or boosting the immune system so that the human body eradicates viruses before they even become active, would be the best means of preventing diseases caused by viruses. Some biotechnology companies such as polyDNA have stepped into this field of research and have come out with natural, antiviral remedies such as Gene-Eden-VIR that contains quercetin as one of its ingredients. For more information on Gene-Eden-VIR and its effect on dormant viruses, visit the Gene-Eden website at http://www.gene- For more information on the Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease, or to schedule an interview with one of our researchers, please visit http://www.cbcd.net or call 585-250-9999. # # # The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD, http://www.cbcd.net) The CBCD published the “Purple” book by Dr. Hanan Polansky. The book presents Dr. Polansky’s highly acclaimed scientific theory on the relationship between the DNA of latent (chronic) viruses and the onset of chronic diseases. Dr. Polansky’s book is available as a free download from the CBCD website. End
