Dec. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- The Magic of Shakespeare Is Brought to Navy Pier this January

People all over the world enjoy the quality performances of William Shakespeare’s plays. Perhaps the most successful playwright in history, Shakespeare’s works have inspired theater and drama fans for many years, are taught in schools worldwide, and have inspired performances in theaters, movies, and even varied adaptions and updates generation after generation. Nonetheless, it’s still not typical to find Shakespeare’s plays performed with orchestral accompaniment. Usually the two are performed separately. This year, thespians in Chicago will be in for a treat as they discover a new way to experience Shakespearean theater.

The Magic of Shakespeare Introduced to a New Generation

On January 21 and 22, the Chicago Chamber Musicians (CCM) and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) will join forces to perform their 10th annual Family Concert. This year’s theme is “Witches, Wizards, Spells, and Elves: The Magic of Shakespeare.” The CCM and CST intend to introduce an entirely new generation of children 5 years and up to the magic of Shakespeare in a live performance held at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater at Chicago’s Navy Pier.

“Witches, Wizards, Spells, and Elves: The Magic of Shakespeare” is the composition of Mr. Bruce Adolphe. It made its debut in 2002 designed specifically for the annual Family Concert and was commissioned by the Chicago Chamber Musicians. Adolphe was a featured composer for the CCM’s 2006 Composer Perspectives. During the Field Museum’s dinosaur unveiling in 2000, Adolphe also orchestrated their Family Concert, “Tyrannosaurus Sue: A Cretaceous Concerto.” For the Magic of Shakespeare, he will be narrating as the CST actors perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream and MacBeth while the CCM ensemble will perform a score composed by Adolphe to represent the magic of Shakespeare’s plays.
