Dec. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- How vital are blogs for UK business?

Over 200,000 people start a new business in the UK every year and more so 2011, as the economy has well and truly bitten into all of us. We will find some of this 'new business' borne out of necessity, workers made redundant, people aged late forties to early sixties and worried about ever getting another job, have reluctantly started on their own.

The majority of these enterprises are Micro business, employing less than 10 people and 60% of them are run by just one person, the working Mum, the over 50, and some 'Young apprentice wannabes'.

Out of the 4.8 million small business in UK over half a million are retail and wholesale, and employs around 5 million people. Seems we are still a nation of shopkeepers, which was how Napoleon scoffed at us in an attempt to belittle us in front of the French armies and we know where that got him!

Almost 2.5 million small businesses operate from home, almost 30% more than in 2010, and contribute a staggering £390 billion to the UK economy, and hence the reason we are seeing more and more office space advertising, as commercial real estate is banking a lot on these companies growing out of the home office and  moving into a commercial office.

Many turn to cost effective ways to market their business, and Online marketing through social media and the Internet is a major sociological change that is effecting many people's decisions to go it alone. Around 69% of small business now use social media marketing as a vital part of their marketing strategy, 77% said they would plan to put more resources into social media in 2012. The reason is because a lot of it is free to use, but it takes a few years to know where the right places are. Hence the reason many new companies are enrolling on an Internet marketing training course.

Alan Johnston the Director of Netmediauk Limited http://netmedia-uk.com, a Wirral based online marketing business told us that the best way to start is with a blog:

"Have a website for your business, make that formal and professional, but now we understand that having a secondary, separate blog site for your company, where you can have more fun, is the most pro-active way to get people to read and see you as an approachable company, and it's massive for Search engine optimisation. Social media is about sharing, not telling, and social media is a dream match for bloggers.

We teach all our Online marketing course pupils how to blog and write effectively, imparting info that's useful to readers and then posting this to social media consistently is the way to do it if you want to be successful online. We are starting to see double the numbers booking in on courses for 2012 as they see this as a vital element for the future growth of their companies "
