By: Niki Lopez “It is amazing to me how these simple principles of giving really impact a business,” says Hyatt. “Most businesses will find that if they simply take the time to implement some of these philanthropic strategies, it will impact their business in ways they couldn’t have even imagined possible.” During Hyatt’s research for her book, she interviewed over 50 companies who were already in the mode of giving back. Several of these companies are local to Colorado, but all shared the common goal of giving back to the community. “In the new economy, giving back to receive is becoming a great strategy for companies to both set themselves apart from their competitors, as well as encourage a feeling of philanthropy as part of the company’s culture,” says Hyatt. “Creating this atmosphere both among employees and clients creates a lot of loyalty, and an overall sense of well-being.” Hyatt’s book provides an excellent step-by-step guide for all small and medium-sized businesses to implement these giving strategies within their own company. Hyatt first explains the importance of strategic business giving, then works toward the actual implementation of the strategy including goal-setting, choosing partners and involving your entire company. Finally, Hyatt discusses various ways to give. “I realize that in working with smaller to medium-sized companies, giving money is not always a realistic option,” says Hyatt. “However, giving time or in-kind donations can also be a very impactful way to give back to your community and in some cases will involve your employees even more.” Hyatt gives various specific examples gathered through interviewing all of these companies, and the ways they have given back within their own community. “I think it is helpful for business owners to read these specific instances where companies have seen the great results from community involvement,” For more information regarding Susan Hyatt and Strategy for Good, please visit her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ About Susan Hyatt: Susan A.
