By: Brenda Forbis On December 6, Armstrong's Staff Advisory Council teamed up with Armstrong's Student Government Association (SGA), Athletics Department and Collegiate 100 chapter to present local U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots representative Sgt. Michael Harris with the collection of toys. Together, these campus organizations coordinated an aggressive campaign to collect toy donations at numerous locations across campus and to accept toy contributions in exchange for admission at Armstrong’s campus Variety Show and at select home basketball games. “This was a great collaborative effort and a wonderful opportunity for Armstrong to help local Savannah youth,” said Megan Feasel, a member of Armstrong's Staff Advisory Council Outreach committee. “We would like to thank Sgt. Harris, the local Savannah coordinator for Toys for Tots. We greatly appreciate his service and distributing the toys to the families.” The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and to distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. By delivering shiny new holiday toys, Toys for Tots strives to deliver a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
