Cornejo is a tailor shop with 60 employees divided between the Madrid district of the city from Guadalajara Suanzes and Azuqueca de Henares. But its boundaries reach Hollywood.

"Here everything is done the traditional way, as before: thimble in hand," said Humberto Cornejo, fourth generation of artisans in Madrid this tailoring of film, opera and international theater.

A tailor's story

In 1920, Humberto Cornejo, the grandfather, bought a small collection of costumes for hire and which could survive the hardships of the Wings-twenties crisis. The business was passed from generation to generation until today, when Humberto, grandson of the founder, gives the torch to his sons and nephews.

This tailoring is not pulled anything. "We still have the clothes that my grandfather produced at the beginning of last century. Long after it has served as a model for some period films," says Humberto. For over 90 years, thousands of original costumes and production itself have been hanging on the racks of these stores preserved history, immortalizing scenes ... "I have to dress costumes here as more than 400,000 people, no doubt," says the tailor.

In the case of the film Perfume (2006) , Cornejo produced a lot of new clothes because, as required by the director Tom Tykwer, "should have the smell of clothes, had to smell".

However, this is not usual. "The costumes are reused from one film to another and figurines recycle many items. The crisis also affects this sector," he says.

"In 25 years of Goya, Cornejo has probably worked on more than 15 films awarded for their wardrobe," she enthuses. But also Cesar, Bafta and Oscar have been awarded to the work of this tailoring. Gladiator , Joan of Arc , The Others , The kingdom of heaven ... the list of national and international productions is endless. "Today I can say that my grandfather founded the tailoring of world cinema," sums.

Humberto says with pride that they have reached fourth generation dedicated to tailoring film costume.

"Like I said my father, my grandfather and in turn, I remind my children that we work by and for the costume," he says. "He is the artist as a sculptor or a painter. We are your tool, the brush that makes it possible to work ...".
