Follow on Google News | Liverpool visitor numbers are firmly on the upIf you're a fan of independent shops and unique boutiques, Liverpool is definitely a city you should check out. This handy guide has some great suggestions for inspiring shopping and shows just how much Liverpool has to offer.
By: Mosaic Publicity According to the Liverpool Daily Post, the city's Business Improvement District has reported visitor numbers of 5.3m which was an increase of just over a fifth on the previous month. In addition, it's a rise of almost 15 per cent on the same period in 2010, thanks in part to a marketing campaign launched by shopping centres Liverpool One and Metquarter, plus the BID and Merseytravel. The project included advertising, email marketing and direct mail shots to 750,000 homes in the North West and North Wales. Liverpool is certainly an attractive option for visitors from the surrounding areas - in terms of retail, its bustling city centre boasts the aforementioned Liverpool One, which features more than 160 high street shops as well as independent boutiques and eating establishments for when you've shopped til you've dropped! Meanwhile, the Metquarter in Whitechapel has something for everyone - Paperchase for your quirky stationery needs, Jo Malone for pampering and Mococo for divine jewellery. The fashion epicentre of Liverpool is Mathew Street in the heart of the city's buzzing Cavern Quarter, where you'll be sure to find something really special amongst Vivienne Westwood, Cricket, Drome and From Me to You. The city is also bursting at the seams with great places to eat and drink. Whatever kind of cuisine takes your fancy is sure to be accommodated in Liverpool - try Chaophraya on Kenyon Steps for Thai food, Simply Heathcotes on The Strand for best of British and Il Forno in Duke Street for a hearty Italian meal. If you're not too stuffed afterwards and fancy a dance, take your pick from the many nightclubs and bars that Liverpool has to offer, like Alma de Cuba which is in a converted church in Seel Street, or Circo Bar based at the Albert Dock. For something a bit more cultural, you can check out National Trust properties like Speke Hall in The Walk. This is a rare example of a Tudor manor house, completed with Victorian interiors and William Morris wallpaper. You can also explore the city's maritime history at locations like the Albert Dock, which features the Titanic Connection, a guided tour which highlights the role Liverpool had to play in the construction of the White Star Line, RMS Titanic, its crew and passengers. This coach tour takes approximately two hours and includes a visit to the Titanic memorial before returning to the Albert Dock. If you're visiting the city from outside of the area, you may want to stay in one of the many hotels Liverpool has to offer. There are many to choose between, from luxury hotels like Radisson Blu in Old Hall Street to budgetique venues like Heywood House in Fenwick Street, or bed and breakfasts like Snooze Guest House situated just outside the centre of the city. Using one of the hotels in Liverpool as a base, you'll be able to enjoy everything that this wonderful city has to offer.
