Anna Ilyina is the Authors of Shame Heirs

The humour in this book is at the same time subtle and yet also obvious in the way that it is thus able to expose the psychology of human nature in the raw and also in all its horror.

Constant dripping wears away stones. Constant hatred wears away souls. The protagonists are ashamed of true love, and such a shame they transmit to their heirs.

The novel is about how shame is passed down in a family over the generations. It is also about how people don’t live their own lives and prefer to exist in a world of handmade images and illusions. The characters use shame to pull each other down, to humiliate those who are weaker, but they haven’t the courage to toss a challenge to somebody who can make himself useful for them.

The novel is philosophical and thought-provoking. It is full of allegorical figures and meaning. The characters in the novel go by descriptive names such as "Girl", "Madam" and "Monsieur".
Events that take place in life of protagonists are seasoned with the monologues of the unborn child – another heir – who comes to his mother in a dream shyly. He shares his impressions with her, speaking about mortal life; he takes his detached view and he feels himself perplexed with actions made by people.

The humour in this book is at the same time subtle and yet also obvious in the way that it is thus able to expose the psychology of human nature in the raw and also in all its horror.

Anna Ilyina

I was born in 1974, near Moscow, Russian Federation. I was the only and the very welcome child in the family. At age two-and-a-half I learned to read on my own and, since then, reading has been one of my favourite occupations. I graduated from two universities, and I’ve got a PhD in Engineering and a diploma in Linguistics. However, I never forget the aphorism by Oscar Wilde: “Education is an admirable thing, but nothing that is worth knowing can be taught."

For a long time I had worked as a technical project consultant, but then I decided to change my profession. Why? It's a little bit of mystery for me even now. There wasn't a subjective reason for such decision. Aside from working as a freelance technical translator, since 2003 I've been working as a translator of romances from English to Russian, and I've already translated more than sixty-five titles. At loose hours I prefer to do painting, to go to the theatre and to visit beauty spots. I am a confirmed vegetarian.

I had never planned to be a writer. But one day I met one woman who said that her mother had hated her, so she was ashamed to love her little child. Maybe her horrifying words prompted me to write my first novel 'Shame Heirs' that was published in London in 2011.
