Dec. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- MANILA – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp.  and the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced the continued execution of its global wireless strategy across Asia Pacific with the deployment of FedEx PowerPad in the Philippines.

The FedEx PowerPad replaces the handheld courier device, the FedEx SuperTracker, as a personal gateway to convey data directly to and from the FedEx internal network.  Bluetooth wireless technology and a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connectivity network provide immediate information access, even when couriers are away from their delivery vans.  The PowerPad enables FedEx to revolutionize the level of service offered to Philippine customers by facilitating faster pick-ups and transit times.

“As a technology leader, FedEx continues to innovate and design technologies to enhance our customers’ experience. The rollout of the FedEx PowerPad in the Philippines helps us drive greater operational efficiency, produce cost savings and deliver even better service to our customers,” said Rhicke Jennings, FedEx Express managing director for the Philippines and Indonesia.

PowerPad functionalities include signature capture, electronic pickup manifest, hands-free transmission, and automatic scan transmission.  It enables dispatchers to schedule customer pickups faster and more efficiently, and allows couriers to reduce the time needed to process packages at pickup and delivery points.

The FedEx PowerPad enhances the customer experience by providing near-real-time, wireless access to the FedEx network, transmitting immediate shipment information for visibility to customers via fedex.com

“We at FedEx believe that the information about each shipment is as important as the delivery of the package itself, which is why we invest in technologies such as the PowerPad, that give businesses the ability to see and understand – in real time – how they should respond to changing markets,” Jennings said.

FedEx has deployed more than 4,000 PowerPad devices to FedEx couriers in the Asia Pacific, including Australia, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam, ensuring every courier has his own device.

Along with the FedEx PowerPad is the rollout of the SF51, a scanning device for use at FedEx stations. The SF51 is a scanning solution offering faster scanning rates by up to 20% and improved barcode capture capability by 90% compared to the previous system.  The SF51 technology also enables users to increase productivity with hands-free scanning.

FedEx, with an annual investment in technology of more than US$1 billion, has led the express transportation industry for more than two decades with significant innovations, including COSMOS, DADS, FedEx SuperTracker, FedEx PowerShip, FedEx shipping software, and an interactive Web site widely noted as one of the first examples of customer service on the Internet.  The company pioneered the use of wireless technology for shipping more than 25 years ago when it created its own private radio network, one of the world's largest.  FedEx was the first to offer real-time package-tracking and drop-off location information via most types of PDAs and wireless phones.

Recently, FedEx launched new iPhone and Blackberry applications and enhanced the FedEx mobile website in Asia Pacific.  These applications allow customers to track the status of their package and use “My FedEx Tracking” for additional shipment details, get rate quotes, schedule pick-ups, and find nearby FedEx locations.  The service is especially useful for customers who are constantly on-the-go and do not have access to back office support on their shipping needs.
