Dec. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Almost any part of the body can be pierced but it is always important to consider your individual anatomy before getting a piercing. It is also important to think about your lifestyle - will your new piercing be practical in day to day life? Simple things such as clothing and work dress codes can cause problems with certain body piercings.

Everyone's body is different and piercings such as upper ear piercings are very dependent on the individual shape of the ears.

It seems like people will pierce almost anything these days but ear lobe piercings are the most popular type of body piercing and they are the first piercing that people have. Ear piercing ranges from simple holes made to allow for thin wires that hold larger ear jewelry to enlarging the piercings and jewelry in imitation of traditional tribal practices of South Pacific and African cultures. In some cultures, ear piercing is done in infancy or childhood, and in others it is permitted alongside rites of passage or when a certain advancement towards or into adulthood happens.

Styles range from the regular lobe piercings found on little girls to the complicated and painful stretched lobe variety. Common earlobe piercings usually don't hurt much because the area is fleshy. Piercings at the top of the ear or the inner portion of ear cartilage might hurt more, however. If the pain continues for more than a couple of days, you could be getting an infection.
