Indiana Campus Compact Welcomes New Member Calumet College of St. Joseph

Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Indianapolis, IN:   Calumet College of St. Joseph, a small, family-oriented, four-year Catholic college offering master's, bachelor's, and associate's degrees as well as certificate programs, officially became the 42nd member of Indiana Campus Compact after a unanimous vote by the Indiana Campus Compact Board of Directors.    

“We are happy to have Calumet College of St. Joseph join Indiana Campus Compact and look forward having their voice at the table as we continue to advance  and grow service and civic engagement across in Indiana’s institutions of higher education. There is a strong tradition of service and community engagement on their campus and I know that they will be strong contributors to the Indiana Campus Compact network,” said James Moseley, Indiana Campus Compact Board Chair and Franklin College President.
 
Indiana Campus Compact Executive Director, Maggie Stevens agrees and says that she and the Indiana Campus Compact staff look forward to working with the students, faculty, staff and administrators of Calumet College of St. Joseph. “I have had the opportunity to meet with several people from the College while visiting the campus and it is clear that this campus is very engaged in the northwest Indiana region and is eager to grow already strong partnerships and programs.”

Calumet College of St. Joseph serves a diverse student population that represents the Calumet area (Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois). Since many of their students work and raise families, Calumet College provides both full-time and part-time study options as well as day and evening classes that meet once or twice a week. In addition, students may be awarded credit for life experience.

Regarding the new partnership, Calumet College of St. Joseph President Daniel Lowery said “Calumet College of St. Joseph has a long-standing commitment to social justice, which finds expression in service-learning opportunities of various kinds for our students.  We are also deeply involved in the larger life of the community in which we’re located.  In our view, Indiana Campus Compact has been marvelously effective in promoting the scholarship of engagement on campuses throughout the state.  As we advance and deepen our commitment to service-learning and other forms of engagement, a formal relationship with Campus Compact emerged as an important priority for the College.  We look forward to a productive and rewarding partnership.”
