Follow on Google News | ![]() Dunlap to Serve as ASFMRA District VI Vice PresidentThe American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) announced James R. Dunlap, ARA, of Dunlap Appraisal and Agri Management, Inc., Sioux Falls, SD, as their new District VI Vice President.
By: ASFMRA Dunlap is the president of Dunlap Appraisal and Agri Management, Inc., performing appraisal work in eastern South Dakota, western Minnesota, northwest Iowa and northeast Nebraska, as well as farm management work in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. He holds a General Certified Appraisal License and does Commercial and Agricultural Appraisal & has Real Estate Brokerage licenses in the above listed areas where he also does Farm Management. As the president & managing broker of his firm, he has one broker associate in farm management and one Registered Appraiser working in the appraisal side of the business. Dunlap holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Morningside College, Sioux City, IA. He completed all the ASFMRA Appraisal course work for the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation, as well all of the course work from the Appraisal Institute for the MAI track. Dunlap has been a real estate broker since 1972, licensed in South Dakota and Minnesota and as a retired Army officer, has completed military education through Command and General Staff College. Dunlap served as the President of the South Dakota Chapter for two years and as Secretary/Treasurer of the South Dakota Chapter for eight years and serves on several South Dakota Chapter committees, and is a member of the ASFMRA Education Committee. Dunlap has worked as an appraiser, farm manager and real estate auctioneer in South Dakota since 1971. He worked as a self-employed professional most of this time. For a short period of time he worked with PCA/FLBA in southwestern Minnesota. Dunlap had the opportunity to do a commercial/agricultural appraisal in Chile for an international bank, and with the help of Jorge Vicuna, AFM, who is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Chile, Dunlap was able to complete this assignment. Dunlap has also worked with the South Dakota Appraisal Licensing Department’s Advisory Council for the past seven years providing assistance and advice to the department in administering the Appraiser Certification Program. During this time, he assisted in writing licensing legislation for appraisal supervisors and Appraisal Management Companies doing business in South Dakota. During most of this time, he has been a registered lobbyist for the appraisal industry in South Dakota as a representative of the South Dakota Chapter, working in conjunction with the Professional Appraisers of South Dakota. Dunlap has an office in Sioux Falls and lives north of the City about 10 miles on a small farm with his wife, Shirley. They have five grown children and nine grandchildren, half of which live in the Sioux Falls area. He enjoys snow skiing and driving or riding his two Quarter Horses.
