Nov. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) and its President and CEO Peggy A. Dzierzawski recently presented Judith R. Trepeck with the annual Thomas M. Hoatlin Award. The award is given to an individual who is dedicated to encouraging a productive relationship between the Michigan Department of Treasury and the MACPA, the state’s largest organization of tax professionals.

The award is given in memory of Thomas Hoatlin, Michigan’s first Single Business Tax Administrator and Revenue Commissioner. The MACPA created it to recognize the organization’s State and Local Tax Task Force member that most significantly represents Hoatlin’s legacy of fostering communication with the Michigan Department of Treasury.

With a career spanning more than three decades of service to local, national and international businesses and organizations, Trepeck currently works as a consultant.  Previously, she served as a Judge at the Michigan Tax Tribunal, holding the only CPA member seat, and as the COO of the Global Credential Steering Committee for the International Institute of Strategic Business Professionals in New York. She also was the CFO of JustUs® and owned and operated a successful consulting practice.

A former board member for the MACPA, she has served on several of the organization’s task forces including as chair of the Michigan Tax Conference Planning Task Force, the Financial Literacy Task Force and as a trustee for the Michigan Accountancy Foundation.  On the Financial Literacy Task Force, she was integral in the creation of a book written to help individuals and their families who are dealing with end-of-life issues.  For her longtime work for the MACPA, the organization has honored her with several awards throughout the years.

“Judith Trepeck has not only made many significant contributions to the MACPA and Department of Treasury, but also to the accounting profession in the United States,” said Dzierzawski. “Her commitment to furthering the work of certified public accountants and helping others throughout her career has been truly remarkable.”

In addition to the MACPA, Trepeck serves on several boards including Hospice of Michigan and Baker College – School of Paralegal Studies.  She also is a member of the AICPA, Association of Accounting Administration, National Association of Corporate Directors, Family Business Council, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the International Women’s Forum, and Michigan Women in Tax.

A frequent speaker for accounting and law organizations, she also has written for numerous publications including Accounting Today, Journal of Accountancy, Accounting for Law Firms and the Detroit Legal News.

A resident of West Bloomfield, Trepeck is a graduate of the University of Michigan Business School.

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants is a diversified, professional, member-driven organization serving nearly 18,000 CPAs and affiliated professionals throughout Michigan. Visit MACPA’s web site at www.michcpa.org.
