Nov. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Aline Smithson, the juror for the Dreams exhibition currently on display at The Center for Fine Art Photography, defines a dream as, “a personal goal, a life fantasy, a desire, and an ethereal scramble of ideas and imagery ripe for interpretation.” The 62 works selected by her in this exhibition illustrate these themes extensively from the otherworldly and surreal to amplified moments of daily routine. Images such as Laura Hartfod’s “Root”, the Juror’s Selection, and Rebecca Martinez’s “Grace”, the Juror’s Honorable Mention, encourage us to question where we’ve come from, where we’re going, and what role our dreams play in understanding ourselves.

As the juror for Dreams, Aline Smithson brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as both an editor and a photographer. She began her career as a Fashion Editor in New York, but since has been the Gallery Editor for Light Leaks magazine, writes and edits the blog, Lenscratch, and has curated exhibitions for a number of galleries and on-line magazines. Her photographs have been featured in numerous publications including PDN, Communications Arts, Eyemazing, and Artworks. Her work has been exhibited nationally in museums and galleries.

Dreams will be on display in the Center’s Main Gallery December 2, 2011 - January 7, 2012.  The artists', juror, and public reception will be on December 2, 2011 from 6-9pm. Aline Smithson will also be teaching a workshop titled “Insights into Fine Art Photography: Seeing Beyond the Lens” on Saturday, December 3rd from 10am-12pm.  For more information and to register, please see the homepage of our website.
