PRLog -- Local businessman, Michael Pouls, is giving the very important issue of child safety a lot of attention these days for two very good reasons. One: according to the Department of Justice, more than 800,000 children were reported missing during a one-year period, resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported every day. And just as alarming is two: more than eight million children suffer from a serious injury or chronic illness each year. So it wasn’t personal tragedy that inspired Michael Pouls to battle these alarming statistics, but rather a keen sense of responsibility as a member of the community who knew that with his business acumen he could make a difference – and not just locally, but nationally. As a result of his efforts to promote child safety education, everyday more and more parents across the country are preventing missing child occurrences by simply educating their children on how to avoid or respond to unexpected situations. “Preparing your children, and role playing, converts what might otherwise be an unexpected and dangerous situation into one that can be either avoided or safely overcome.” Here’s an example: children should have more than one action plan should they suddenly find themselves separated from their parents at the park, at the beach, etc. If a child discovers that he/she is suddenly alone, and can’t find a police officer to approach for help, the child shouldn’t feel helpless and panic – instead, he/she should seek out another mom with children for help. “It’s always good to have a back up plan, whether your are a child or an adult, no matter what the situation may be, “says Pouls, “It prevents panic and promotes swift and appropriate action. And sometimes taking action is the difference between staying safe versus falling victim to a predator.” This is just one example of the many child safety lessons being taught across the country thanks to the attention Michael Pouls is giving child safety.
