Oct. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- On Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 10 am until 12 pm, the Dominion Lecture Series at Menokin welcomes Charlene Talcott, Chief Ranger of Interpretation & Education for DCR at Belle Isle State Park as she introduces us to the phenom currently sweeping the world....geocaching.

Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. According to the official geocaching website, there are currently 1,549,826 active geocaches and over 5 million geocachers worldwide.

You don't need much to go geocaching. The only necessities are a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile phone so that you can navigate to the cache, and a free http://www.geocaching.com/ membership. Menokin has six geocaches on the property, one of which is included in The Captain John Smith Geotrail, which was created in partnership with the Chesapeake Conservancy, the National Park Service and the Maryland Geocaching Society.

Come to Menokin and enjoy the fall weather in the company of other geocache enthusiasts and wannabes and become a member of a worldwide community of 21st century treasure hunters. This event will take place at Menokin on Saturday, November 5th from 10 am until noon. There is no fee associated but registration is required and donations are welcomed. Please call Menokin at 804-333-1776 or email us at menokin@menokin.org to register.
