By: A & R Select Roxy Rola can rock out in an all girl hard rock band called Wet Hot Cherry Pop or with a metal punk band called Suck My Vox or Flesh Degradation which is a death/thrash metal band. You can also listen to her wonderful solo project that was released on May 29th, 2010 called “Reckless Abandonment” Two singles off of this latest project, “Let You Go” and “Still in Love” are two songs that string the rest of the songs together. Considered a concept album “Reckless Abandonment” “Let You Go” is about getting over a past relationship. It’s a fast paced hard rock song with continuous electric guitar licks only matched by the raw in-your-face vocals that tear at your emotions. Roxy Rola allowed her feelings to explode in this song with a no holds barred attitude. “Still In Love” is about still being in love with someone and looking back on it as a learning experience. This song has a tenderness to it yet reveals that rock kick that is expected from Roxy Rola. Its rhythm and the chorus and harmonies are right on target, delivering an impact for maximum effect. Roxy Rola has created a very unique fusion of hard rock, punk, metal, classic rock, jazz, blues, country and anything else that has a rock n’ roll or pop rock sound. Her music is relatable, honest, raw, genuine and powerful – a perfect recipe for success. “Reckless Abandonment” Roxy Rola is hoping to re-record a few songs in the United States with an American producer if everything goes according to her plan. She is planning some shows around her hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba as soon as they can get a good drummer. She is currently writing and recording new songs for her next CD. She uses a motto to help her through her journey saying ‘whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger’. Her strength is palatable and empowering. “I feel as much as music is heavily portrayed as being all about: sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Sometimes this is what captures our souls when we hear our favorite songs and the whole image revolving around it sucks us in. I definitely can say that I’ve been there and done that and it has helped shape my writing and who I am as a person but I feel in order to sustain or last in the industry it really has to be 99% about the MUSIC”.
