GEORGETOWN, KY (OCT 17, 2011) - Global Environmental Services is proud to announce that it has received both R2 and e-Steward certifications. The second and final stage of the certification process was completed earlier this month and the official certifications were presented to GES on Friday, October 14th.

GES is one of the few electronics recyclers in the world to have completed both R2 and e-Stewards certifications as well as the entire suite of ISO certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001).  Preparation for these certifications was several months in the making, and the efforts involved were rigorous and time-consuming. The audit itself was performed by a third party organization called Orion Registrar, Inc.

Both R2 and e-Steward certifications are voluntary for electronics recyclers. The R2 standard was developed by ISRI or the Institute of Electronics Recycling Industries and is facilitated by the EPA. The standard for electronics recycling has very little federal regulation, but R2 is the closest form of government regulation currently available.

The e-Steward initiative was established by BAN or Basel Action Network, which is a non-profit organization that is considered the “watchdog” of the electronics recycling industry. BAN, based in Seattle, Washington, promotes ethical electronics recycling and diligently aims to eliminate the exportation of hazardous materials to developing countries.
