Take an Indian summer break around Cambridge

England has been experiencing a true Indian summer, with the first of October classified as the hottest for 100 years.

Oct. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Parts of the country were warmer than Spain and even Hawaii which has meant great news for East Anglian tourist trade including hotels in Cambridge and nearby Newmarket.

The term staycation has been bandied around the media for the last few years, as the tough financial climate has led to many holidaymakers choosing to holiday at home rather than going abroad.  And with temperatures hotter than the Med, it has definitely made sense for people to visit tourist attractions closer to home this year.

But where to choose?  You wouldn’t go wrong with Cambridge – recently voted one of the UK’s top five holiday destinations in the 2011 Travellers' Choice Awards by Tripadvisor.co.uk

This historic city is steeped in charm and character with an abundance of things to see and do – and tourists have a wide range of Cambridge hotels to choose between.

On the top of many itineraries in Cambridge is the world famous university, where you can pop into Christ’s College and see for yourself where Charles Darwin was a student in the late 1820s.  Or take a punting trip on the River Cam where you can see King's College Chapel, The Wren Library at Trinity College and the Bridge of Sighs amongst many other landmarks.

There are also many walking tours to take advantage of – and keen photographers won’t be disappointed at the plethora of photo opportunities as  they navigate the historic streets.

Of course, trips away are as much about eating and drinking as taking in the sights, and Cambridge has many traditional watering holes to choose from like The Green Man in Benet Street, which dates back to the 16th century.  There are also many upmarket restaurants if you’re celebrating a special occasion, such as Midsummer House on Midsummer Common which has two Michelin stars to its name.  For those in the mood to party, the city also boasts many bars and clubs where you can dance the night away before getting back to your Cambridge hotel.

If you’d prefer to pick a hotel near Cambridge rather than in the city centre itself, why not give the Bedford Lodge Hotel in Newmarket a try?

Whatever you decide to do, you can be sure that your visit to Cambridge is a truly lovely affair – and one you’re likely to repeat again and again.
