Oct. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Langer Equestrian Group (LEG), one of the largest horse show management companies in the country, has long had a tradition of community involvement. During the L.A. International Jumping Festival (Sep 21-25) at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC), LEG invited groups from the community to participate in the opening ceremonies of the $50,000 L.A. International Grand Prix, which featured top jumper riders from around the country. The community groups participated in a parade through the arena before the main event of the show and staffed booths by the arena to pass out information about their groups as a promotional opportunity.

After the John Burroughs High School Marching Band marched through the crowd to signal the start of the show, University of Southern California's (USC) famed mascot Traveler made his appearance in the ring. "It's a huge honor to be part of the Trojan family and to bring Traveler to everyone," commented Joann Asman, who has owned and trained the USC mascot for the past nine years. "We've been a part of this grand prix show for several years in different ways. LEG is a great supporter of the community, and we love to support anything they do." The USC Equestrian Team also participated in the parade on foot.

Palos Verde Pony Club members also marched in the parade. Some of them recently returned from Pony Club Nationals in Kentucky, where they had the chance to compete against members from all over the country in jumping, dressage, cross country, and a quiz event. "Members of the local Pony Clubs try to attend the $50,000 L.A. International Grand Prix every year, and the girls love it," said Darlene Pell, Treasurer of the Palos Verdes Pony Club. She coordinated the Pony Club members attending the event. "A lot of top riders started in Pony Club themselves, and many of the kids in the club today aspire to be grand prix riders themselves one day. The girls with me got a kick out of being in the parade, and it was really encouraging for them to see the riders in action."

Shadow Hills Riding Club and Therapeutic Riding is a boarding and training facility that offers Natural Equine Assisted Therapy programs for adults and children with special needs or who are overcoming abuse or emotional trauma, such as veterans. They teach horsemanship skills to their clients to help with their physical coordination and emotional well being and growth. Members of their staff and students marched in the parade. "It's a big honor to be a part of the grand prix," noted Andrew Mikiel, who co-owns Shadow HIlls Riding Club with Johnny Higginson. "We've been working hard to get the word out about how Natural Equine Assisted Therapy can help those with special needs. Insurance doesn't cover this kind of therapy, despite how beneficial it is, so there is always a need for funding."

The opening ceremonies also included performances of current pop music by the John Burroughs High School Marching Band, a presentation of the American flag, and a performance of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" and the National Anthem by USC Equestrian Team members Alex Alex Luizzi and Lily Phillips. "It was amazing to be a part of the grand prix because it was such a huge event," Alex said. "I loved singing for the competitors and crowd and having my team there; it was a great experience."

Langer Equestrian Group produces high quality horse shows throughout the year in California and Colorado. Three times per year, their shows at LAEC attract top riders to compete for prize money over challenging Olympic style grand prix jumping courses. In addition to the L.A. International Jumping Festival, these include the Memorial Day Classic (May 24-28, 2012) and L.A. National Horse Show (Nov 16-20, 2011).
