Sept. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Waterbury, CT - Consumer reports were released across the nation during the second week of September stating that despite economic hardships sales for items such as luxury cosmetics, flavored coffee, and frosted cupcakes were up as much as 18 percent. It isn't hard to imagine the average Jane wants a break from the doldrums of financial responsibility by sneaking away to a piece of frosted chocolate cake or pretty lip gloss, but how high of a ticket price item is the average person willing to purchase to feel a bit of self pampering without the effect of buyers remorse?

According to Jennifer Tynan, owner of both Sugar Glam and Flower Girl Princess located in Waterbury, CT, “It completely depends on your retail market, however, right now anything in our children's line on FlowerGirlPrincess.com is booming. We may see fewer pretty designer women's gowns going out the door these days, but people will always buy clothing for their children and won't feel bad afterward. We specialize in American made products and customers really appreciate that these days. Lets face it, girls grow up playing dolls, and when you have a six year old little girl of your own, its still just as fun to play dress up. Our customers can buy what they need and never feel irresponsible because these are things you have to buy anyway for school or family events.”

So, in many cases, items in the range of $40 ~ $60 seems to be a comfortable price range for consumers to participate in small luxury purchases. “Make no mistake about it, “ Jennifer continues, “Our customer is savvy; they are informed, and these are not impulse purchases like a $10 pair of shoes that one happens to walk past at the right time. A $50 dollar purchase these days is thoughtfully considered by our customers, who are typically a family of four or five.  People feel like they are working harder for their money now, and they want to take a step away from the bulk low quality products that they can buy in multiple and move toward fewer better quality unique product that will last and possibly be handed down like flower girl dresses for memorable family events.”

Consumer products with the words “Made in America” have a very powerful sound  in a weak American economy. Is it really a persuasive point when offering a product to a customer, and are customers really choosing one product over another simply because it was manufactured in America?  Jennifer states that her customer care department does get a lot of positive feedback about the American made garments, but there is no way to tell if that is the selling point of one garment over another. “We don't shy away from beautiful designer heirloom lines like Sarah Louise christening dresses from countries like England,  but we make sure to clearly mark American made garments. Ultimately it is important,” she adds.
