American Red Cross Received Donation for Disaster Relief Fund From

Sept. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Marketing Manager, Vicki M James, for Thaney & Associates CPAs, P.C. announced today that the employee contribution of $206 collected through the weekly Fundraising Jeans Friday program will benefit American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

“In January 2010, the employees brainstormed for Tax Season Morale Boosters and the Fundraising Jeans Friday program was just one of several ideas that everyone wanted to participate in”, says Marketing Manager, Vicki M James.  The employees pay for the privilege to wear jeans on Fridays and vote every four months for a new charity.  “The program was only started for the intent to keep spirits up during tax season, but it was so well received that we continued past April and are now on our second year,” explains COO, James P Latona, CFFA, CFD.  “We’ve even had people donate when they weren’t participating; now that’s dedication to social activism!” says VP, Scott T Gerken, CPA.  According to Leigh Ann Schoen, Client Service Consultant, who suggested the idea, “I thought it was a great way for us to ‘give back’ and something to look forward to during tax season – it was a win-win.”  

In the past year and half, Thaney & Associates CPAs’ employees have donated $1,033 to area charities that have a special meaning for them.  Past recipients have been: RADA Charitable Foundation (which supports several area children charities),Thaney & Associates are neighbors with the Rochester Automobile Dealers Association; Cameron Community Ministries which is a client of Thaney’s and sends Holiday cards with the children’s pictures every year, Mary Cariola Children’s Center where one of the employee’s daughter works, Lollypop Farm where one of the employees, a huge advocate for animals, participates in the annual Barktoberfest and the American Red Cross Natural Disaster Relief as many of the employees have families that have been affected by the recent floods, tornadoes and hurricanes.  “It was voted that the next few months we will support the Alternatives for Battered Women, where again, employees have a connection through family members using their services.  I think one of our employees said it best,” says Managing Partner, Edward F Thaney, CPA, CVA., “‘I would like to help by donating to the shelter that is there for [women and their families] when they need it most.’”
