Two Okanagan Men Preparing to Undertake a Down Under Adventure with Purpose

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- KELOWNA, B.C. – After embracing many earth-bound pursuits, Kelowna social entrepreneur Mark Jennings-Bates is set to take on an adventure in a new element.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Kelowna International Airport beginning at 11 a.m., Jennings-Bates will unveil details of his latest pursuit. Along with Vernon’s Glenn Derouin, the duo will attempt to set a Guinness World Record piloting a powered paraglider around Australia. Jennings-Bates and Derouin will be on hand at YLW’s Administration Boardroom to speak with media about the attempt.

Jennings-Bates, a Kelowna realtor, is best known for his time behind the wheel of a rally car, racing motorcycles, climbing mountains or competing in triathlons. Derouin owns Paraglide Canada and has more than 20 years of experience skydiving and paragliding.
The project is designed to raise awareness and funds for poverty reduction around the world.

The pilots will be promoting Rally4Life, a Canadian-based charity that reduces poverty through the provision of safe water, sanitation solutions, education and shelter to children and families in need around the world. Currently, the Rally4Life Foundation is actively involved in projects in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Africa (www.Rally4Life.org).

“We’re undertaking this personal challenge for a much greater cause,” Jennings-Bates says. “This adventure is in support of Rally4Life, an organization that’s trying to provide safe drinking water, sanitation, education and shelter – the most basic needs – to children and families in Africa.”
