Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- When we heard that Loftek had released a camera with an automatic Infrared Filter, we were more than eager to try it out. Loftek calls the technology “Trucolor” image processing, because with the additional of an IR filter, daytime colors are supposed to appear more natural. IP network camera users should be familiar with white grass, purple trees, and black clothing that shows up blue on IP network cameras.

Why is that? Because Day/Night IP network cameras with Infrared night vision don’t see the world the same way our eyes do; the camera’s image sensor also records infrared wavelengths that aren’t visible to the human eye. Some users rig up infrared filters from old cameras or lenses, but after set in place, the cameras lose their night vision capabilities. This is why we were pretty excited at finding an automatic IR filtered IP network camera for under $100.

What we found

The Trucolor filter works extremely well, and resulted in much more realistic colors. Also, the image on the CXS 3200 is sharper than on the previous Loftek cameras we’ve experimented with. The CXS 3200 IP network camera still has all the great features of previous Loftek cameras, including pan and tilt, motion detection, night vision LED’s, and support for 802.11b and g protocols. The pan and tilt range are also improved over previous models, maxing out at 340° horizontally and 100° vertically.

Best Points
Motion detection with Email and FTP notifications Quick setup Works with wireless G routers. Improved color quality without loss of night vision clarity

Areas to Improve
The largest resolution is 640x480 Ugly graphic interface Black is not the same rubber black of previous models

Conclusion

The CXS 3200 from Loftek is a well-priced, effective camera with a high quality IR filter and all of the functions we expect in an IP network camera. For users looking for more accurate color reproduction while still needing night time functionality, the CXS 3200 is an ideal choice. For the next generation of CXS 3200 ’s, we’d like to see Loftek bring back the matte, rubberized black finish from the CXS 2200 ip network camera, and possible add a more polished user interface. For the price, the CXS 3200 definitely delivers.
