Whilst this is a very simple method of controlling heaters which has been with us for many years, this type of control is now redundant. The controller contains an internal thermostat for local control and optional sensors can be added for larger open spaces. Multiple Smartcom can be interlinked to form a site network where all the plant operates together to maintain the set point temperature as efficiently as possible.

When placed into automatic mode the unit offers automatic control of combined heating and free cool ventilation or heating and cooling. The Smartcom 3 panel will control the burner plus integral fresh air dampers or cooling coils where appropriate. It also ensures correctly sequenced operation of heating combined with ventilation or cooling.

Manual operation is possible and frost protection is inbuilt and automatic. The system is password protected to prevent unauthorised people from tampering with the program.

The basic time clock is replaced with an intelligent “Optimal Start” feature which determines the best start up time. Rather that the system turning on plant from a pre-set time it holds off turning the plant on until the last possible moment. It determines start temperature and occupation temperature and internally maps optimal start time.

In response to increased awareness and demand for energy efficient heaters, Benson has significantly increased the numbers of heaters which meet the requirements of the United Kingdom Enhanced capital Allowance scheme. All models of Variante 2 gas unit heater and PV cabinets heater ranges have efficiency levels which meet or exceed the 91% net efficiency threshold and more than 70% of all oil and gas fired cabinet heaters have met the criteria.
