| ISP Hits The CeilingMichigan based ISP Technologies finds success with its high fidelity, professional ceiling mount speaker systems in a wide variety of installations.
By: Greg McVeigh The HDDS is a complete system utilizing high quality, powered ceiling or wall mount speakers that can be linked via inexpensive Cat5 cable. Three models of speakers are available, the CS 650 ceiling mount with plenum, CS 651 with back can, and a stand-alone wall mount version called the SM 650. The heart of the HDDS is its Master Control Module which can power and control multiple zones and has the potential to connect up to 180 speakers all without the need for noise-adding 70 volt transformers. And because the speakers are self-powered and receive a line level signal, there is no need to install expensive power attenuators for remote control. The Master Control Module provides remote level control via VCAs, which allow for Cat5 cable, which transmit both audio and power, to connect to any inexpensive potentiometer. Smaller systems can be powered and controlled by the compact BRC1 single zone control unit. Dic Gleason is an auditorium operator at the Naval Academy’s Alumni Hall and oversaw the installation of the HDDS in that facility’s dining room. Working closely with system installer Marcos Pena and his company, Green Planet Audio, Gleason comments “Our new distributed ceiling system has improved the sound in our dining area immensely. The room is 143’x 30’ with floor to ceiling glass walls on one side and solid oak paneling on another. It can be a nightmare. There are 12 ISP CS 650 speakers that are used with the Master Control Module. Once we dialed in the eq, it became a forgotten system. We put the microphones in place and leave the room.” Cruising the international waterway of the Detroit River, “The Diamond Jack,” a three deck sightseeing boat takes groups of visitors on a narrated voyage to see the Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, Canada skylines along with historical anecdotes about both cities. Aboard is the HDDS consisting of 24 SM 650s configured in three zones, one per deck. The lower two decks are stereo while the top deck is wired mono. An ISP Master Control Module controls the entire system. Steve Corrothers, Operations Director (and captain), summed up the HDDS simply, “the system works beautifully for us.” For more information on the ISP Technologies HDDS products or any ISP Pro Audio products, call (248) 673-7790 or visit www.isptechnologies.com.
