We open with a presentation from Nik Zeps on ethics addressing consent, data sharing, benefit sharing and protection of participants. Nik discusses human biospecimens in research in cancer, looking at pathology services and the legal obligations concerned with access to diagnostic samples. Nik also provides an update on the work of the National Ethics Committee Initiative, which is due to present a paper in September 2012. Next, he talks about consent for the use of biological specimens and genetic information for medical research, offering a case study from Australia.
