Camping complete with solid oak flooring

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Pepper Fewel, the owner of Breakfast and Barn in Washington woke up one morning to realize that her overnight business was spilling out of the farmhouse. She has now started to put guests in 20ft tepees that overlook her working horse ranch.
‘I’m not a true camper in any way, shape or form’ Fewel says. ‘So I did what I know I would like to do. I love the shape of the teepee, and I thought ‘if I were to stay in this, I wouldn’t want to stay on dirt’ so we put wooden flooring down and then beds.’
Initially the teepees were not a long-term solution for the business, but after a few months they became an attraction in themselves. Through the entirety of October, they were booked every Friday and Saturday; Fewel also notes that there was a 25% increase in nearly 20 wineries surrounding the ranch.
The term that has been associated with these savvy entrepreneurs discovering what 200 plus years of traditional American outdoorsman ship couldn’t do, is ‘glamping’. The simple art of creating a tent in the form of modern living, which can incorporate solid oak flooring to bathtubs.
"One day back in 2003, a lady came to stay with us from New York, and she said, 'Oh, this is glamping; it's upscale camping,'" Fewel says. "Of course a New Yorker would have brought that up, right? And I said, 'That word is so cool.'"

From a distance, glamping looks like a camping, a circle of tents grouped to together around a campfire. But look again; these tents have king-sized beds with duvets and pillows. The food consists of prime rib slowly cooked by a gourmet chef. Even the kids can be entertained with free wi-fi access. The dog is also catered for with  wood flooring decking to lie on, whilst you relax in your comfy leather armchair sipping on your cocktails.
Larry Lipson, the owner of MD of Paws Up resort in Montana, has recently added these luxury tents to his ranch, nestled between the banks of Blackfoot River and the famed Big Sky.
"Over the course of the spring and summer of 2010, we turned away well over a hundred reservations because of lack of availability," Lipson says, adding that this year's bookings are selling so briskly that he expects to make his budget for 2011 six months early.

"We have not only made each successive camp that we've built more luxurious than the previous one, but we've also increased the nightly rate," Lipson says. "We've discovered that there is very little price resistance among those who want to experience nature without giving up the creature comforts of a fine hotel. We like to refer to it as 'nature served on a silver platter.'"
