| Explosive Working Dog Credited With Saving 100 Lives Is In Need Of Home; To Be HonoredBady, was rescued by Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary from Afghanistan. During one of his missions, his handler was killed and he was wounded in the paw. Bady will be honored at the 2011 Veteran’s Rally in Cripple Creek, CO. 20 August.
“We graciously volunteered to continue with Bady’s treatments and to place him in a loving home,” said Lauri Cross, Wild Blue Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Executive Director. Bady served as an explosive detection dog for seven years in Bagram, Kandahar, Fort Dodge, Camp Phoenix and Kabul under United States Department of Defense and NATO Coalition Forces. Last year while searching in a village in Northern Afghanistan, Bady stepped on a metal object which penetrated through his left rear foot. Medical specialists decided the best way to save Bady’s life was to amputate his leg due to infection that was compromising his lymph nodes. “He is now now learning to get around on three legs and has earned the right of passage from a working dog to a loyal pet,” Cross said. Cross says that they are looking for an experienced handler. “He still tends to be dominant even though he is sweet because he was trained to patrol and find explosives,” “Ideally, we need a special home with someone who can be home with him, is experienced with working dogs, has a large fenced yard and doesn’t have children or cats,” she said. “I know the perfect home is out there for Bady,” Cross said, “hopefully it will be here in Colorado!” Bady will be a VIP (Very Important Pooch!) at this year’s Veterans' Rally in Cripple Creek Colorado, 20 August 2011. An Honorary Combat Action Badge and Certificate will be presented to Bady by Col. Michael Kasales, Commander 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., Ft. Carson, CO. The Veterans Rally will also present Bady with an award for recognition of his service. About Wild Blue Animal Rescue: Founded in 2010, Wild Blue is a 501(c )(3) non-profit organization.
