Portland, OR: Shreve & Company, one of the oldest Guild Jewelers in the United States will open its first store outside of the San Francisco Bay Area in the heart of downtown Portland this fall. Established in 1852, just one year after the City of Portland itself was incorporated, Shreve & Co. has an established reputation as one of the finest luxury jewelers in the country.

Four years after the discovery of Gold on the West Coast, George Coates Shreve and his nephew Samuel S. Shreve, joined the thousands traveling west in search of good fortune. The Shreve’s opened the doors to their jewelry store on Market Street, showcasing fine timepieces and high quality gold and silver jewelry, diamonds and precious stones. Then as it remains today: the service was impeccable, the merchandise of the highest caliber, the designs trendsetting  – “must haves” for city’s most affluent residents.

Throughout its long history, Shreve has represented many of the finest watch and jewelry brands in the world. Taking great pride in the continuity of its long established partnerships with such legendary watch manufactories as Patek Philippe (since 1887), Jaeger-LeCoultre, Rolex, Officine Panerai, Baume & Mercier, A Lange et Söhne and IWC; and jewelers such as Mikimoto, Wellendorff, SUNA, Oscar Heyman, Hearts On Fire, Roberto Coin; Marco Bicego, David Yurman and John Hardy.

From the 1860s to the 1960s, Shreve & Co.’s gold and silversmiths were considered to have no equals in the United States except for one firm in New York City. Many of Shreve’s most spectacular pieces are included in museum and private collections around the world. Unusual commissions included a life-sized rooster crafted of solid 18-karat gold for the Golden Rooster restaurant at the Golden Nugget Casino; and a 10-inch high teddy bear cast from solid gold presented to President Theodore Roosevelt on behalf of the citizens of San Francisco.

Shreve is the oldest retail jeweler in California. An independent, Guild jeweler, Shreve & Co. is owned and operated by the fourth-generation of a family of jewelers. Shreve & Co.’s flagship store has been located at the corner of Post Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square since 1906. The firm also has a store at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, CA.
