Aug. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Production process of tungsten cooper alloy by powder metallurgy: milling - ingredients mixed - pressing - sintering infiltration solvent - cold. Sumitomo Electric company used injection molding to make high density tungsten ally. The manufacturing method is to mix nickel powder with average particle size of 1-5 micron, copper powder or iron powder and tungsten powder with particle size of 0.5-2 micron and 5-15 micron tungsten powder and then added 25% -30% organic adhesive mixture (such as paraffin or polyethylene-methyl acrylate) molding, using steam cleaning and irradiation to remove adhesives, sintering in hydrogen, to obtain high-density tungsten alloy.

American Brush Wellman's patented process is using oxidized copper powder (mixed and ground to restore copper) instead of metal copper. Copper forms a continuous matrix in sintering compacts, and tungsten is as reinforce framework. High expansion group is restricted by second component surrounded, and the powder is sintered in wet hydrogen under lower temperature. It is said to a very sintering property and densification can be improved by fine powder, and reach higher than 99%. This process achieved great success in industrial applications, with low cost, high value, and the components meet net shape and near net shape.

Alloy Consisted by tungsten and copper has good electrical and thermal conductivity, good high temperature strength and a certain plasticity. At high temperatures, such as above 3000 ℃, the copper is liquid evaporated, absorbing heat, reducing the surface temperature. Therefore, these materials are also known as metallic sweat material.

Tungsten copper alloy have a wider application, mainly used to manufacture electrical switch contacts and the rocket nozzle throat insert, rudder and other high temperature components, but also for EDM electrode, high temperature molds and other occasions require thermal conductivity and high temperature performance.
