Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Even after spending lot of money on hydroponics equipments and hydroponics nutrients,  do your plants look weak  with spindly stems and leaf problems? Then the problem is rootbound.

Often hydroponics growers pay attention to hydroponics nutrients, grow room climate control, pH, ppm, hydroponics lighting, plant genetics and many other physical factors. They try everything to fix the problem, but they forget about the hydroponics roots. That is because roots are out of sight, so they tend to get out of mind for many growers.

Some growers assume that their plants root will grow happily in whatever the space they provide to them and the plant will enjoy the nutrients and water provided in ample quantities. However, that cannot be always the case. Healthy growth is dependent on not only external factor but the internal factors of plants too.

Hydroponics roots are the foundation of your crops, and if your roots don’t get enough space to grow then they face a lot of problems that can stunt growth, decrease yields and even kill your plants.  Always make sure your hydroponics medium is large enough for your hydroponics plants’ roots to grow.  If the pots were too small for your plant then the roots will cram inside the pot and your plant will not grow into the healthy one.

Get a series of pot sizes for your plants and start your plants in Jeffy Preforma, whether they are clones or seeds. In Jeffy Preforma your plant will grow faster and develop ample roots.. Every two weeks during the grow phase, upgrade your container in new series. Always check that your roots have enough space.

Hydroponics plants don’t like to be transplanted during bloom phase, but if you are forced to do that because of the rootbound during bloom phase then feed them vitamin B hydroponics formula which will help your plant to overcome transplant shock. Devise a system of transplanting your plants to successively larger pots and fix the problems completely.

Rootbound roots are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hydroponics plant problems. If you are relying on any kind of hydroponics system where water is reservoir stored, then pay close attention or you could have problem roots that will ruin your hydroponics dreams.

Observe your hydroponics leaves. If you see curling, yellowing, large brown areas or other problems and if those problems aren’t tied to hydroponics nutrients issues then it could be roots which are in trouble. If your leaves are showing those kinds of problems, check for insects, diseases, nutrient issues and root issues such as Pythium root rot and harmful diseases.

Examine your plants roots. If you are using aeroponics, aquaponics and similar systems, it is easy to check the roots but it is real hard if you are using soil. If you see dark brown roots, roots that look like rot then there’s a problem.  The interior of your reservoir might be coated with scum or similar problems. To eradicate the rot, you have to remediate fast or you will lose your crop. It is likely a sign of the evil root rot that can turn your happy hydroponics garden into a dead zone.

The first thing to do is to drain and flush your reservoir and anything else in the water system for your crops. Dump the old water, scrub all surfaces, replace irrigation tubing and emitters, replace air stones, and replace the pump.

Anything not replaced must be thoroughly flushed with professional-grade concentrate hydrogen peroxide at least twice using a ratio of three tablespoons per gallon of fresh water.  Before you reconnect your system to your plants, it’s a good idea to run another hydrogen peroxide rinse through the entire system including the root zone with fresh clean water.

When your system is thoroughly retrofitted and cleansed, add a Vitamin B formula, potassium silicate, a plant immune booster, beneficial microbes and roots excelurator to your feed program for a few days.  If the damage has not reached far and roots can self-heal then the aforementioned additives will help them recover faster.

Continue with everything except the Roots Excelurator for the rest of your grow cycle, following the hydroponics nutrients manufacturer’s directions for use. Please be aware that if you have been adding beneficial microbes to your root zone, it might be that you have to pay more attention to how much you are dosing because even beneficial microbes can sometimes cause harm to your plants.

Ensure that you keep your reservoir water below 74F, preferably around 65-68F, especially if your ambient air temperature is higher than 74F. Root diseases love high water temperatures and remember not to overwater.

Just by following little precautionary measures, you can have safe and healthy roots for your hydroponic plants.
