Aug. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Today, ValueMomentum is a USD 24 million company and was felicitated with ‘Deloitte Technology Fast 50 India’ award for 2010. The company has a wholly-owned subsidiary, namely ValueMomentum Inc, in New Jersey, US. The company has recorded a growth of 31% CAGR since inception, supported by different solutions and practice-based service offerings.

In conversation with Bizxchange, Ravi S Rao, Managing Director, ValueMomentum, shares his experience and growth at the company. Edited excerpts from the interview are as follows:-

What was the idea behind setting up ValueMomentum?
ValueMomentum was set up with the idea of bringing ‘engineering discipline’ to business through our offerings, by focusing on technologies that will leverage as a base for building our ideas in the space of business engineering.
 
Why was the company named ValueMomentum?
The underlying premise was to focus on delivering ‘value’ to our customers through our solutions and this when practiced repeatedly manifests in generating the ‘momentum’ to their businesses — hence it was coined ValueMomentum.

What was the company’s focus during the initial years?
Initially we emphasised in instilling a discipline in the business to make it financially viable. Besides, we invested quality time in building an understanding of the business of our target customers and focus on a selected partner platforms and tools. Furthermore, we tried strengthening our foothold in India (considered the best market for talent) as well as in the US (considered the ideal market for innovation-driven business consumption).

Tell us about the company’s initial challenges.
The initial challenges that we faced were as follows:
- The need to run the business on a tight leash
- Tough market conditions following recessionary pressure, post Dotcom bubble
- Scarce resources amid the challenge to be able to differentiate our offerings in a very competitive market space
- Fund paucity to invest in R&D

According to you, what are the aspects that give your company an edge over its peers?
Our ability to understand our customer’s business and their processes, our technology and utilisation expertise to deliver solutions that bring business value, our ability to attract and engage customers over extended periods of time and experienced professional management and a strong leadership team that has the ability to nurture and retain talent at every level in the organisation are the company’s four pillars of strength.

Do you think Indian and US IT firms have numerous areas to collaborate and gain?
Yes, there are numerous areas to collaborate and gain in developing innovative and well engineered IT products and solutions that can be world leaders.

How big does the company aspire to be five years from now?
We target to become a USD 100 mn firm after five years.

Give some tips to budding entrepreneurs?
Focus, discipline, self-belief and a firm desire to run the extra mile to innovate and enrich value of all customers and stakeholders are the keys to success.
