Distributed Database Characteristics and features differ from another Database Types

Concept of Distributed Database is different from the Decentralized Database
July 28, 2011 - PRLog -- When an organization is geographically dispersed, it may choose to store its databases on a central computer or distribute them to local computers or a combination of both. A distributed database is a single logical database that spreads on computers physically in several locations associated with a network of data communications. We emphasize that the distributed database, is really a database, not a loose collection of files. The distributed database is still centrally managed as an enterprise resource simultaneously with the flexibility and local adaptation. The network will enable users to share data and as a user or application at location A will be able to access and update data on the location of sites B. a distributed system can be spread over an area larger than the only country or countries in the world. It can spread in a single state or small areas of the city. Computers can vary from PCs to large servers and even supercomputers.

Distributed database requires several database management systems, each running on the remote site. The degree to which these dissimilar DBMSs corporate, or work in partnership, and whether there is a master site that synchronizes calls involving data from manifold sites decide diverse types of distributed database atmospheres.

It is important to distinguish between distributed databases and distributed. A centralized database is also stored on computers in various places, but computers are not connected by a network, so users in different locations cannot share data. Therefore, a decentralized database is best viewed as a collection of separate databases, instead of the geographical distribution of single database.

Distributed database is absolutely dependent on economic conditions and conditions.

Divisions, departments and services of modern organizations are often geographically distributed and potentially internationally. Frequently each unit has the power to create their own information systems, and often these units want local information, they can control.

Even a moderately complex business decisions require the sharing of information in different business units, so it is advisable to collect information from different databases on local demand.

The cost of huge amounts of data distribute to another communication network or a large volume of transactions, sources at a distance can be high. Often it is cheaper to invest in data and applications close to where they are needed. The dependence on telecommunications can be dangerous, so keep a local copy, or fragments of information can be a reliable way to support the need for quick access to information throughout the organization.

The next session we will see what is a homogeneous, non-autonomous systems and self-distributed database.
