Follow on Google News | Exclusive Interview With Author and Playwright Gary BeersGary Beers answers the most common questions put forward by his fans.
By: Rosette Amorelli I was struck by the modesty of the estate. Having sold approximately 301 million e-books to date, I had expected something more extravagant. As he has admitted to me, Mr. Beers desires to live a “normal life”. The estate itself is beautiful, with flourishing fruit trees, rose bushes, and a house surrounded by pine trees large enough for the entire family to live together, yet it sits inconspicuously to the passerby, who would never ponder that such a renowned author resides there. Though the interview itself was brief due to the business of the household, the newest member being at the young age of 7 weeks old, Mr. Beers was cordial and happily welcomed me into his home. “You found me!” Mr. Beers cheerfully remarked as he opened the door. As I entered the house I breathed in the aroma of fresh brewed coffee, a staple in Mr. Beers’ diet. As I walked past the dining room, I noticed that the décor was simple yet elegant. The wallpaper in the dining room reminded me of wedding cakes. I told Mr. Beers so, and he responded by telling me that he and his wife were married in that very room in a small and intimate ceremony with only a few close friends and family. I was introduced to Mrs. Beers, who met me with a smile and offered me a cup of coffee, which I gladly accepted. Mr. Beers led me through the family room which bore evidence of little children: tiny shoes and petite bottles of nail polish on a table. There was a stray balloon floating up above against the vaulted ceiling. “Balloons are my son’s (referring to his step-son Julian) favorite things in the world and for his birthday I’m going to get him two hundred of them!” Mr. Beers told me with a playful twinkle in his eye. After having met the author for those few minutes, his love for children was obvious and it is not at all surprising that he is a writer of children’s books. Settled in the office, we attempt to begin our interview however, we are interrupted by a visit from Jade. As she peered into the office, Mr. Beers started in his chair and in a high-pitched, childlike voice, told her “close the door or I’m going to have to slap myself!” The little girl laughed and obeyed, and Mr. Beers explained that it was BabyRoo, a character in the" PumpKinRoo" series, who had spoken. Once again, we settle into the interview, as Mr. Beers is eager to hear the questions that his fans have shared with me. RA: Mr. Beers can you tell me about your mother, and what influence she has had on your writing career? GB: My mother was born in 1944 in the District of Columbia. After three months of living with my grandparents, they moved to Columbia, South Carolina where my mother stayed until age 17. I honor my mother. My father always supported the Christian idea of standing by your mother, so did I in belief and practice. My mother did well managing eight of us. I was always made to feel that I had to impress my mother. Nevertheless, as I became more popular it seemed easier to impress her. My mother supported my schooling and profession as a writer, however when I succeeded it seemed not to impress her, leaving me to take on a bigger task with the hopes of bringing joy to her, which rarely happened. RA: I pose the same question to you about your father. GB: My father was born in 1938 in Butler, Pennsylvania. In 1955, my father made a final trip to Yonkers when he married my mother in 1962. My father and I were close, as he gave me a homemade education while I went to school in what still seems a lifetime to acquire my Ph.D. of Forensic Psychology. On Dad’s side, my grandmother Mary was the most amazing woman who endured much in her life, and who began teaching me several languages, which helped a lot in the obtainment of vocabulary in an enormous sense of the word. RA: Which sibling were you closest to growing up? GB: Prior to her dying in 1992, I was closest to my sister Loretta, however I began a fruitful and positively progressive relationship with my sister, Patricia, who I call ‘Patty.” RA: When was PumpKinRoo augmented to be readable creation? GB: PumpKinRoo was an imaginary and figuratively pronounced metaphor which took me many years, even until today to perfect with voice induction and in diction which compliment Roo and BabyRoo as well. The Roo has been with me since age three or four, I cannot recall the exact year. RA: How did Heaven Only Knows come about? GB: I wrote Heaven Only Knows a play script in 1989. A year after I started Golden Vintage Productions. In 2001 I began turning the script into an original time and place novel, and was inspired by Loretta and my niece, Jessica. Beth Mitchell is the plaster cast of both Loretta and Jessica. RA: Has Golden Vintage Productions been a great success? ValueBusiness.com, based on our research, states your company as being worth nearly two (2) billion dollars. Is this true? GB: Yes. RA: Do you have a favorite genre? GB: Novels and free flow poetry are my favorite to write. Though I have been blessed to write many genres, I am truly a novelist and poet at heart. RA: How did Tony Carl influence your writing, and is it true of him being your senior editor? GB: Tony Carl influenced my writing to a height I cannot express. He was a perfectionist, a fantastic editor and father figure to me. I miss him and I will never forget the great times we shared before he passed away. For 21 years, Tony drilled the English language deep within the recesses of my mind and soul to which cannot be measured. This type of rearing had everything almost to do with the reflection millions around the Globe have of my person. I am grateful of impressions here in our country and abroad continue to remain positive and supportive for the most part. RA: Why were you named ‘Romeo of the North East'? GB: In 2009 a New York publisher had asked me to produce several literary pieces. He invited me to a party at his home in and wanted to look over the pieces. When I arrived at his penthouse the only people who were there were he and myself. There were advances made of him. I walked out and a short time later, ironically, I was made "Romeo of the North East". It was concluded of me that this is how the name came about, after I had devoted some time to researching the papers he owned in New York and abroad. That is how it went abroad. Victoria liked the name Juliet and seemed proud at the time to have made it in to the media. I on the other hand, was not pleased, as I have gotten many unpleasant reactions from close friends and family members.” RA: How long does it take you to write a book? GB: I have been known to write a book in a day, a few weeks and up to three months. The projects I am currently working on will take more than likely two years to complete. RA: Can you tell me something about them? GB: If I did that, I would have to start slapping myself. Our interview had come to an end, and Mr. Beers politely led me to the door, as he stated that he was eager to get back to spending time with his son, who he loves to dote on.
