July 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The following statements are actual comments received by ITRA from timeshare owners past and present, who are seeking financial restitution ,  who maintain and believe that they have been fraudulently misrepresented by various organisations in respect of the purchase and ongoing use of their timeshare so as to render it virtually valueless and untenable.

Alto Club Portugal

   Mr E C told us:
When my wife and I purchased the timeshare, we were told that we would have 2 weeks periodic membership at Alto Golf Club for life, this has now been cancelled from 2010.
We were told that the sale price would increase and we would be able to sell easily, and that the maintenance costs would rise at less than inflation.
All of these claims are false.
I am only joining into this action on the basis that this is a no win no fee action, and that I will not be responsible for any costs.

Cala Pi

   Mrs S M P told us:
We bought our timeshare in 1995, we were told that it would be an investment and that we would be able to re-sell in the future.
We were told that timeshare would be cheaper than package holidays, this is not the case.
We were told that the fees would go up with inflation, the maintenance fees are too high.
We have now been told that the timeshare goes to our children, which we did not know at the time.

Belton Woods/Cameron House

   Mrs A W told us:
On several occasions I have tried either internally or through Interval International to exchange my Lodges, either in the UK or abroad without success.
I am unable to understand why I cannot exchange, but be offered a Lodge rental for the same week.
I feel that my membership with Interval International has been a waste of money.
I also consider that the maintenance fees are extremely high.

Los Molinos / Sunny Coast

   Mr D G told us:
My wife and I got our timeshare in July 2000, Sunny Coast in 2006.
My wife became ill and we have only used them one time.
The maintenance has gone up, I cannot go on paying for it.
I have tried to sell them, I was told I cannot give them away.
I was told they would be easy to sell.
I lost my wife in 2005.

Timeshare Weeks:

   Mrs J R told us:
My husband and I purchased our timeshare in 1985.
Since then we have used it each year as a home resort, we have also used it once as an exchange.
Over the years our maintenance has risen sharply, the year before last it had increased to over 800 pounds, this year however,  it has gone down to around 488 pounds.
The resort has now been taken over by Diamond Group.
I cannot sell my two weeks as they are worthless.

   Mrs M S told us:
Myself and my husband purchased in 1985, since then we have used it for our holidays.
Our maintenance had increased to 800 pounds, this year it has gone down to 450 pounds.
The resort has now been taken over by Diamond.
I have paid over 1000 pounds to a resale company but they did not sell it.

Club La Costa / Tropical Park

   Mr H H told us:
Myself and my wife bought our first timeshare at Club la Costa in 2003.
When we went to the resort the following year, they talked us into upgrading from a static week to Club la Costa points, we have 4001 points.
In 2005 we went to a presentation at Tropical Park and we purchased one week with them.
We have used both resorts until 3 years ago when my wife became very ill.
The maintenance at Tropical Park is reasonable, as it is only 250 per annum, but Club la Costa has increased to over 2300 per annum.
We have tried to sell both resorts but have had no luck.
We were told at both presentations that it was easy to sell the resorts, but this has not happened.

Parc del Sol Tenerife

   Mr C S told us:
In being persuaded to purchase a week of timeshare in Tenerife in 1992, we were assured that it would appreciate in value, and that the selling agent would guarantee to sell our existing timeshare for us.
The unit failed to appreciate, and no effort was made to sell our existing week.
These false promises made by the high pressure salesman, I regard as being highly misleading and constitutes mis-selling tactics.

Sunny Coast Malta

   Mrs B D told us:
   We were told:-
Timeshare was an investment, and we would be able to re-sell if we wished.
Having a timeshare was cheaper than a package holiday, and we believed this to be true.
We would be allowed a third week free of exchange fee when we went further afield such as America or Australia.
Over the past few years we have been charged electricity at resorts, which we never expected.
We expected our maintenance to have been spent on maintaining our apartment, however, when visiting in 2009, it was in very bad repair, and so dirty that we had to move to another place.

Club la Costa / Benal Beach

   Mr E R told us:
My wife and I joined Club la Costa, we bought off site in 1990 and paid 4595 pounds.
Two years later we became members of Kingfishers Club at Benal Beach, we paid 6750 pounds.
We have tried to sell both of them, and also tried to give them back to the resorts, but they will not take them back.
In the last 4 years, the maintenance fee has gone through the roof, and we are now paying over 1100 pounds per year, and not using them, what a waste of money!
We were members of RCI from the start and paid this each year, today we were told we did not have to renew RCI, so we have paid this for all this time for nothing.

ITRA are now pursuing the coordination of a claim to the courts on behalf of timeshare owners who can justify due cause for full compensation, distress and damages on the grounds that their timeshare purchase was not of merchandisable quality. Our objective is to support the consumer in timeshare disputes. We have discovered a pattern of abuse, deception and fraudulent issues that have been systematically perpetrated by many of the major timeshare industry players to the detriment of owners.
