Donald and Lisa Pliner Partner with Miami Symphony Orchestra to Support Foster Children in Need with New “Tune for Peace Summer Camps” Program

July 7, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, NY – June 28, 2011 – Donald and Lisa Pliner, the legendary shoe-designing duo behind Donald J. Pliner and Lisa for Donald J. Pliner footwear, are proud to announce a special collaboration involving their personal charity, Peace for the Children Foundation, and the Miami Symphony Orchestra to establish Tune for Peace Summer Camps. This truly special initiative is aimed at bringing attention to the often-neglected subject of child foster care and its call for assistance.

With 310,250 children entering the foster care system annually in the United States, the call for support cannot be ignored. In honor of this national concern, Tune for Peace Summer Camps is offering 25 foster children the opportunity to attend a six-week program offering peace and reassurance through a variety of specially-crafted weekly programs in the areas of music, art and design. The mission of the program is to introduce children to the joys and benefits of fine art, helping each of them to realize their full creative potential and giving them the chance to embrace the possibilities that can be achieved through artistic expression.

The children’s camp is being organized through Voices for Children, an organization that works to ensure that every abandoned and neglected foster child has a Guardian ad Litem.

Donald and Lisa Pliner believe that communication is the key to peace, and what better form of communication than the arts, “We aim to teach the children that their efforts are part of a bigger picture. This will be done with the hope that when they do grow up, they too lend a hand to those in need”.

In an effort to expose the children to the wonderful world of art, Tune for Peace Summer Camps has tapped some of Miami’s best, including artist Eleazar Delgado, a seasoned professional in the areas of architecture and interior design, who is leading the camp’s art instruction, Michelle Maniaci, creator of Nurturing Moves, a spiritual approach to letting go, healing and energizing, who is carrying out the programs yoga lessons, and jewelry designer Taryn Aronson, creator of unique, intricately crafted fine and fashion jewelry, to teach jewelry design, along with Bolivian artist, David Banegas, and international signer and pianist, Phyllisia Ross.

Local celebrities are scheduled to make surprise appearances throughout the program to inspire and share their stories with the children.
