MetalTech- The $19.5 million dollar University of Tampa Sykes Chapel facility was completed in 2010. The chapel construction endeavor was made possible through considerable private donations from benefactors like John H. and Susan Sykes. The 12,750-square- MetalTech-USA fabrication services were provided for the metal roofing and cladding applications for the Sykes Chapel. All of the metal cladding systems were developed using RHEINZINK titanium alloy. The metal roofing consisted of 17,500 sq. ft. of .8mm MetalTech-USA Double Lock Standing Seam zinc panels. The façade and soffits were utilized 6,500 sq. ft. of 1.2mm MetalTech-USA Vertical Reveal zinc panels. The fascia cladding and canopy required 3,000 sq. ft. of zinc composite metals. "We are very proud to have produced the envelope systems for this award winning project," said Eric Simonsen, Vice President of MetalTech-USA. The MetalTech-USA engineering and design team developed the roofing and wall cladding specifications for the chapel. Simonsen developed the engineering specs required to fabricate the panels. During the developmental stages, Simonsen carefully evaluated the sustainability and functionality objectives to ensure that maximum life cycle goals could be achieved. In working closely with architect Robert Balke of tvdesign, Simonsen was able to incorporate the artistic vision into the engineering requirements for metal architectural applications. “Durability was a major concern for this project,” Simonsen explains. “We wanted to ensure that the gauge and the desired roofing profile would meet both design and life cycle requirements.” Specialty metal fabrication and engineering: Installation: Construction: Architects: tvsdesign, Walter P.
