Owner’s Representative Services for Kozienice Power Station in Poland Provided by SGS

July 1, 2011 - PRLog -- In May 2009, SGS Industrial Services was awarded a contract to provide extensive Owner’s Representative services for a new flue gas desulfurization (FGD III) installation for unit no. 10 at the Kozienice Power Station in Poland, the largest coal-fired power plant producing electricity for the National Power Grid in Poland.

With a view to contribute to a reduction in emissions with respect to the standards of the European Union and provide environmental protection for the Kozienice Landscape Park, which is situated in the neighborhood of the power station, ENEA S.A. decided to build a new flue gas desulfurization installation (FGD III) for unit no. 10.

To proceed with such a comprehensive project in compliance with all relevant regulations and requirements, while keeping the project within the planned time schedule, the project owner looked for a reliable inspection, verification, testing and certification company. In May 2009, due to its extensive experience and competence, SGS Poland was assigned a contract to provide complex third-party Owner’s Representative services for the entire project.

In order to verify at the earliest possible stages that the construction project is designed to the required standards, criteria and legislation with regard to material selection, design and requisite safety levels, SGS provided extensive Design Verification services. Furthermore, SGS conducted Construction Supervision (http://www.sgs.com/construction__building_infratrsucture_...) to help the client reduce technical risks, prevent construction errors, control budgets and effectively keep the construction project within its planned schedule.

With extensive skills in the construction industry, SGS also conducted Health, Safety and Environment Management during the construction of the new flue gas desulfurization installation at the Kozienice power station. SGS coordinated all health and safety aspects of the construction project, to protect workers on site. In addition, SGS carried out Quality Assurance and Quality Control (http://www.sgs.com/quality-assurance-and-quality-control?...) to ensure that the construction project is in accordance with all contractual specifications, codes, standards and government regulations.

By supplying Owner’s Representative services SGS assured that the project will meet all required and agreed conditions in terms of technical parameters, quality of equipment and works, scheduled timing and contract price. Thanks to SGS’s competence and expertise, the construction of the new flue gas desulfurization installation at the Kozienice power station was conducted successfully with respect to all standards and requirements and within the planned schedule to the full satisfaction of the client. The fact that it was the third installation that SGS supervised for Kozienice Power Plant over the period 1999-2011 confirms the level of trust the client has in SGS’s services and know-how.
