Best-Selling Author Contends That Self-Proclaimed Experts Are Idiots

Are most of the experts you encounter in life really experts? Most are phonies, according to this best-selling author.

June 24, 2011 - PRLog -- "I'm sick of so-called "experts." Really really sick of them."

That's what New York TImes best-selling author Frank J. Rumbauskas Jr. had to say on the topic of experts, based on his experiences in hiring high-fee consultants in his businesses.

"Last year I was out of commission thanks to a severe sinus infection that resulted from toxic mold exposure,", says Frank. It finally took surgery and a few days in the hospital to correct it. During that time, Frank hired the allegedly "best" Google AdWords management company to run his campaigns in his absence, at a cost of several thousand dollars per month.

The result?

"These so-called experts nearly ran my business into the ground - traffic and sales from AdWords, my #1 traffic source, came to a screeching halt."

They were fired in short order.

Then he hired one of the world's top "experts" on website conversion optimization. Several weeks and a few thousand dollars later, they redesigned Frank's website, NeverColdCall.com, based on their expert experience.

The result?

"Again, not good," Rumbauskas explains. "This time it wasn't a total disaster, but the site didn't perform nearly as well as the one I'd chosen and customized all by myself for around $80. The "expert" site was removed and my old site went back up." (Frank later learned that they give the same website template to all their clients, so there's no real design or consulting involved.)

Then, in a situation where the tables were turned, Frank was hired by a business "expert" who did management and growth consulting with large corporations, who started a business teaching others how to start and run their own business.

After only a couple of short weeks, it became apparent that the "expert" quickly became impatient with the realities of starting an internet marketing campaign from scratch and hastily dismissed Rumbauskas.

"From checking on readily-available statistics from time to time, I can see that he is failing miserably at starting a business, while he continues to teach others how to do so, at a high cost to boot. That is the very epitome of unethical behavior, if you ask me," says Frank.

In a search for more traffic and more revenue from his various online businesses, Frank did some asking around and was referred to yet another "expert," this one specializing in back-end revenue generation and CPA (cost-per-action) media buys.

The result? "This time it was really sad - pretty much zero," Frank tells us as he shakes his head. "A self-proclaimed super affiliate who couldn't make more than $200 in any given month with the same list of about 7,500 leads that I've been able to consistently generate over $70,000 each month from isn't much of an expert to me."

What's the bottom line?

Frank answers, "For me, it's to realize that as evil as the group of people known as, "Those who can't do, teach" are, there is an even more evil group of people who don't know how to do anything, yet they charge people expensive consulting fees to do that which they can't!"

So the next time you hear someone proclaiming to be an expert, Frank says, or talking about all the consulting they do with big-wigs, be forewarned. With few exceptions, you're probably dealing with a first-class liar who might end up on CNBC's show "American Greed" for running a scam!
